The Fairmount Performing Arts Conservatory (FPAC)
announces its second season with Ohio Premiers of
Thirteen and EAT (It=92s Not About Food)
*Fairmount Performing Arts Conservatory (FPAC) will present two Ohio
Premieres in its upcoming season. The Teen Theatre will present
*Thirteen*and the Adult Professional Theatre will present
*EAT (It=92s Not About Food).*
Fairmount Center has developed a theater arts training and performance
initiative, the Fairmount Performing Arts Conservatory. FPAC manages all
things theatrical with Fairmount including youth and adult professional
productions and the highly acclaimed summer training program for young
people. One of FPAC=92s goals is to provide high quality educational
experiences with socially and educationally relevant productions that reach
out to the schools and general public with powerful, contemporary
messages.
Playing from February 18-28, 2010 will be a teen production of the musical =
*
Thirteen*, Music and Lyrics by Jason Robert Brown, Book by Dan Elish and
Robert Horn, Directed by Sean Szaller with Music Direction by Mike Caraffi
and choreography by Bebe Weinberg Katz.
This high-energy show follows the lives of thirteen 13 year olds as they
navigate their way through friendships, love, popularity, honesty, and
growing-up. *Thirteen* is a show about finding out who you are, finding out
what you need, and finding out what's really important. This was the first
show in Broadway history to have an entirely teenage cast and orchestra. Th=
e
score is filled with fantastic pop/rock music!
Next up from April 16 =96 May 1, 2010 will be *EAT (It=92s Not About
Food**),*by Linda Daugherty and directed by Fred Sternfeld.
*EAT (It=92s Not About Food)* is a humorous and poignant look at the danger=
ous
and baffling world of eating disorders and our society=92s obsession with
food, appearance and body image.
*The play* candidly explores causes and warning signs, and takes a hard loo=
k
at the influences of society and the media. The play tells individual
stories of teens and adults struggling with this epidemic and too often
tragic problem.
Fred Sternfeld, Artistic Director of FPAC comments =93A primary goal of FPA=
C
is to present plays dealing with the serious issues that face our society
today. Linda Daugherty has created a remarkable play that captures the
essence of the American psyche surrounding this important issue.=94
*Eat (It=92s Not About Food)* received its world premiere at the Dallas
Children=92s Theatre last year where it garnered critical praise.
"A gutsy, arresting and daringly, darkly humorous world premiere =85 powerf=
ul
=85 leaving open the possibility of changing and perhaps even saving lives =
of
both young audience members and friends whom they now may recognize as
needing help."
*The Dallas Morning News*
"Linda Daugherty has never been one to avert her eyes from issues facing
young people today =85 *EAT* inspires as much laughter as it does tears =85=
The
emotional impact is raw and unapologetic =85 awe-inspiring =85 It is a diff=
icult
hour to spend in the theater. But it is also one of the most revelatory
plays I've seen. It makes the inevitable pain one will feel well worth it,
especially if it means a deeper understanding."
*People Newspapers**, Dallas, Texas*
FPAC will be collaborating with area health organizations on surround
programming and talk-backs.
Both productions will be performed at the Mayfield Village Civic Center =96
6622 Wilson Mills Rd., Mayfield Village Ohio (At the corner of Wilson Mills
and S.O.M. Center Roads). For ticket information and group sales call
